Happy Mother’s Day!

Motherhood is no easy feat; there are always too many things to do and seemingly endless cries to listen to and understand, with barely any time to catch your breath. As a single mom years ago, I know all too well the struggle to make ends meet for the family I needed to feed, while still making sure my presence as a mother was felt.

To be a mother is to literally shed blood, sweat, and tears. It’s definitely not for everyone, and I respect those who choose to live their own lives unfettered by child-rearing; there are many other things to struggle through, after all. The world needs people with undivided attention to focus on things of great consequence.

And yet I wouldn’t trade motherhood for the world.

See, despite all the struggles, there’s something about the way the kids’ eyes light up when they’re presenting you with something new. You’re excited for them to grow up so you can have some time to yourself, sure... but you know full well that when the time comes, you’re going to miss the heck out of them and hope they keep you in the loop.

Motherhood is joy, sorrow, discovery, and a million other emotions and experiences in between, all rolled into one huge burrito. It’s crazy.

To all the mothers out there, and to those who are stand-in mothers (single dads, aunts/uncles, family friends, absolute strangers with the biggest of hearts): I SALUTE YOU.
